EU, World Bank Could Act as Guarantors for Ukraine Gas Debt Payments (Alexander Novak, Russian EM)

gazprom naftogazThe European Union and the World Bank could act as guarantors for the debt payments that Ukraine would be submitting to Russia under the plan proposed at the trilateral gas talks in Berlin Friday, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said.

«The funds that Ukraine received today from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which amount to $3.1 billion, could be used as a source of paying off the debt on the [Russian] gas deliveries, and the World Bank and the European Union can act as guarantors for the repayment of this debt,» Novak told journalists after the talks……… Διαβάστε περισσότερα…

EU energy commissioner fearing Russia may use natural gas as weapon

a158a-0agogosaeriokyprosisrahlelladaEU’s outgoing energy commissioner Guenther Oettinger said in a speech at a meeting of the EU energy committee on Thursday he felt Russia might stop deliveries of natural gas to Ukraine.

A report placed on the EU’s official website said Oettinger said in his opening speech that many people were thinking relations with Russia were more important in the field of energy than relations with Ukraine but “we have to overcome this.”

Memorandum on stabilizing ceasefire another important step towards de-escalation, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office says

BERN, September 20 2014 – Didier Burkhalter, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Swiss Foreign Minister, noted with satisfaction the signing of a Memorandum on 19 September, 2014, outlining the parameters for the implementation of the cease-fire commitments laid down in the Minsk Protocol of 5 September 2014.

The signature took place at a further meeting between the Trilateral Contact Group of senior representatives of Ukraine, the Russian Federation and the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, and representatives of certain districts of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, which took place in Minsk on that day. Burkhalter called the Memorandum a significant step towards making the cease-fire sustainable and an important contribution in the efforts to peacefully settle the crisis in Eastern Ukraine………………. Ukraine scores $15 bln from Russia, 33% gas discount

PUTIN Yanukovych 17 dec ria novostiAfter stringing along Russia, the EU and the Ukrainian people, President Viktor Yanukovich has inked an agreement worth $15 billion in securities and from January 1, can start buying Russian gas for $268 instead of $400 per 100 cubic meters.

The Russian government will essentially buy $15 billion in Ukrainian debt by buying Ukrainian securities using money from Russia’s Welfare Fund, President Vladimir Putin announced Tuesday at a meeting with Yanukovich in Moscow.
